Heart-rate straps and watches: Polar H10, Garmin HRM, Wahoo TICKR and watch broadcast
Any heart-rate strap that broadcasts standard Bluetooth heart rate pairs with Domestique Hub — a Polar H10, a Garmin HRM, a Wahoo TICKR — and so does a sports watch with heart-rate broadcast switched on. Here is what the app does with it on a ride, a run, at the gym and in the team car.
Which straps and watches work
The app uses the standard Bluetooth Heart Rate profile, which nearly every current chest strap and arm band broadcasts: Polar H10 and H9, Garmin HRM-Pro, HRM-Dual and HRM 200, Wahoo TICKR, and the many unbranded straps built on the same profile. Garmin watches with Broadcast heart rate switched on work too — that is a Garmin fenix's broadcast in the captures we test with. A watch that does not broadcast will not appear; there is nothing for a phone to hear.
Readings you can trust
- A strap that stops sending shows a dash within a few seconds, instead of holding its last number for the rest of the ride — and the dash is a gap in the file, not a zero dragging your average down.
- Skin contact counts. When the strap itself reports it has lost contact, the reading is dropped rather than recorded.
- It comes back on its own. A strap that goes quiet is reconnected once per silence, and remembered sensors reconnect next time without a tap.
What it feeds
- On the ride screen — heart rate, % of max, heart-rate zone, and charts, alongside power and speed.
- In the activity — the heart-rate chart, time in zones and relative effort, and the file sent to Strava.
- At the gym — the session player records your heart rate through the session, so a strength session gets the same heart-rate chart and calories as a ride.
- For runners and drivers — a run uses the same strap; so does the driver in escort mode, whose screen offers heart rate and nothing that needs pedals.
Pairing
- Wet the strap's contacts and put it on (or switch on heart-rate broadcast on your watch).
- Open Connected sensors and tap Search all · auto-detect, or Connect on the Heart rate row.
- That is it — it reconnects by itself from then on.
On iPhone, Bluetooth sensors need the installed app; in a desktop browser, Chrome and Edge can pair a strap too. See every device the app connects to.
Questions riders ask
- Does it work with a Polar H10?
- Yes. The Polar H10 broadcasts standard Bluetooth heart rate, which is what the app reads — as do Garmin HRM straps, Wahoo TICKR and most current straps.
- Can I use my Garmin watch as a heart-rate sensor?
- Yes, with Broadcast heart rate switched on in the watch. That is what we test with.
- What happens if the strap loses contact?
- The reading is dropped and the field shows a dash within seconds, instead of freezing on the last number or recording zeros.
